Within the Unit of Biostatistics, we are looking for an experienced Biostatistician 60 – 100%

The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a world-leading institute in global health with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. Associated with the University of Basel, Swiss TPH combines research, education and services at local, national and international levels. 900 people from 80 nations work at Swiss TPH focusing on infectious and non-communicable diseases, environment, society and health as well as health systems and interventions.

The department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH) is the largest department of Swiss TPH. EPH hosts a biorepository and actively generates numerous population health, environmental and biomarker datasets. It collaborates actively in national and international epidemiology, public health and personalized health networks. The EPH broad research activities cover infectious and non-communicable diseases in humans and animals based on data from routine monitoring, implementation research, observational studies, and randomized trials. EPH builds capabilities nationally and internationally through graduate and post-graduate training in epidemiology, public health and data analysis for students and professionals with life science, medical and social science as well as economics backgrounds.

Within the Unit of Biostatistics, we are looking for an experienced

Biostatistician 60 – 100%

Your various and interesting responsibilities include:
• Designing epidemiological and health systems studies
• Statistical analysis of observational and trial data
• Methodological supervision of MSc and PhD projects
• Writing statistical analysis plans
• Drafting and editing research manuscripts
• Taking part in teaching activities

Essential skills and experience:
• MSc in (bio)statistics or PhD in another quantitative discipline
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in data analysis, ideally in an academic environment
• Good overview of epidemiological study designs
• Excellent statistical programming skills, ideally using R; Stata is a plus
• Commitment to best practices in research, particularly computational reproducibility
• Assertive personality; ability to make decisions and take responsibility
• Ability to communicate effectively with researchers without quantitative backgrounds
• Ability to prioritise and work on multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong team spirit and willingness to share skills and knowledge with others
• Proficiency in English, written and spoken

Desirable skills and experience:
• Previous experience in a statistical consulting role
• Experience in research or implementation in low- and middle-income countries
• Experience with data from routine monitoring and registries
• Predictive modelling using machine learning
• Version control skills with git
• Good command of German
