We are holding an open day for Oxford’s Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship on Friday 14 June (both in-person and online joining options).

Over the summer we will be opening applications for the 3rd round of Oxford’s Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship: https://saiis.web.ox.ac.uk/home. The Fellowship is 2 years in length and aims to give early career scientists the opportunity to apply AI to advance scientific knowledge. Though we expect candidates to have an appropriate level of understanding of how AI techniques might be applied in order to progress their research area, the programme offers training and therefore we would like to encourage those who might not feel confident in their AI knowledge to apply. Note, you do not need to be part of the University of Oxford during the application process; you do need to, however, have been in contact with an Oxford PI before the relevant departmental deadline in order to ensure they are willing to host you for the duration of the Fellowship.

Our Fellowships apply AI in the non-medical sciences; we view the use of AI (defined broadly, including areas such as the use of computational statistics and Bayesian inference) in epidemiology as appropriate for this call, hence why we are posting this on this list. Note, the Fellowship deadlines will be set by the relevant departments in Oxford, and the one listed as part of this advert is meant only as a guide.

We are holding an open day on Friday 14 June from 14.00-16.00 at the University’s Doctoral Training Centre (https://www.dtc.ox.ac.uk/) to promote the programme to strong candidates from all backgrounds. The open day will give candidates the opportunity to ask questions and to learn more about the programme, from the programme leadership as well as current Fellows.

The event will be livestreamed and also recorded and posted subsequently on our YouTube channel.

The event will consist of a few short talks, including an overview of the Fellowship programme and talks by two of our current Fellows. There will also be the opportunity to speak with Fellows and Faculty involved in the programme over Barefoot Bakery cakes for those joining in person.

If you’re interested in attending, either in-person or online (either during the livestream or subsequently in case you want to be shared a link for the recording of the event), please sign up here: https://forms.office.com/e/cCQDTJPkFC
