Using mathematical modelling to understand the impact of environment on diseases (salmonellosis and leptospirosis)
The environment has a large impact on many diseases, although often we don’t know how and why. In this project you will use maths and environmental and epidemiological data to address this issue. You will focus on Salmonellosis (a common foodborne disease) and leptospirosis (a disease usually transmitted through water or soil contaminated by the urine of an infected animal). Our ultimate goal is to develop a tool to assess the public health risk of these diseases based on information about the environment. This would provide crucial information on the challenges posed by changes in the environment, such as with climate change.
