Using genomic surveillance to support SARS-CoV-2 control and mitigation strategies in the Philippines
We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant to contribute to a UK-Philippines SARS-CoV-2 genome sequencing project “Implementing Genomic surveillance to support SARS-CoV-2 control and mitigation strategies in the Philippines”. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to bioinformatic and phylogenetic analyses, including data management, of SARS-CoV-2 sequence data and play a role in project coordination between sites. The candidate will work as part of a collaborative international team of researchers at the University of Glasgow (Dr Kirstyn Brunker, Professor Katie Hampson) and the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (Philippines). Therefore, working effectively as part of a team is a critical aspect of this role. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow.
Applicants should have prior experience with viral sequence data, bioinformatics and knowledge of molecular evolution. Should have technical expertise with at least one computer coding language (python, JAVA,perl).
