Understand the link between social behaviour and disease transmission with big data from a citizen science project & spatial disease models

Human social interactions and movements are key in driving outbreaks of respiratory infections such as influenza. In
2017/18, the BBC pandemic smartphone app collected data on social behaviour, movements and demographic factors as
part of large-scale public science project, with over 10,000 volunteers taking part. Combining this novel data with spatial
models of disease transmission, this project will investigate factors driving the transmission respiratory infections such as influenza, as well as implications for targeted control measures
