Two Research Assistant/Associates on statistical and epidemic modelling of HIV incidence and prevention in Malawi and South Africa

We seek two predoctoral or postdoctoral researchers to work on projects about estimating HIV incidence in high HIV burden settings in sub-Saharan Africa. The project will focus on estimating small-area HIV incidence trends to guide and evaluate HIV prevention programmes in Malawi and South Africa.

Projects will involve statistical analysis, triangulation, data visualisation, and potentially mathematical modelling of new HIV recent infection surveillance and routinely HIV administrative data. Key collaborations with be with Ministries of Health and networks of research partners in Malawi, South Africa, and other countries in the regions along with partners in the US Centers for Disease Control and UNAIDS.

One post will focus on analysis and modelling of HIV incidence and risk in southern Malawi as part of the Blantyre Prevention Study, a large collaborative project supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to work with government, academic, and non-governmental organisation partners to develop and evaluate sustainable models for HIV prevention in southern Malawi.

In addition to specific research and HIV control objectives in partner collaborations, research will support and contribute to the objectives of the UNAIDS Reference Group on Estimates, Modelling, and Projections (www.epidem.org) , an international collaboration of researchers providing expert guidance to UNAIDS and national governments on the methods and data for quantifying and responding to the global HIV epidemic.

The posts are full time and fixed term for 12 months in the first instance, with possibility for extension. Please contact Dr Jeff Eaton (jeffrey.eaton@imperial.ac.uk) for further information.
