Two Postdoctoral Research Associate positions to work on modelling vaccination development and deployment.
We are currently inviting applications for two Postdoctoral Research Associates to work with Professor Robin Thompson at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford. These are 3-year, fixed-term positions, funded by the new Oxford-GSK Mathematics Informed Medicine Centre (MiMeC). The starting dates of these positions are flexible, with an earliest start date of 01/10/2026. The latest possible start date, based on the end date of the grant, is 09/10/2027.
The successful candidates will be members of the Infectious Disease Modelling research group (https://www.maths.ox.ac.uk/groups/mathematical-biology/infectious-disease-modelling) within the Wolfson Centre for Mathematical Biology in the Mathematical Institute. They will have responsibility for carrying out research involving mathematical modelling of vaccination as part of the MiMeC Vaccines and Epidemiology research theme. This theme is led by Prof. Thompson in Oxford, in close collaboration with Dr Rajat Desikan at GSK.
These two positions will involve developing mathematical models that can be used to guide vaccine development and deployment. A range of possible projects are available within the existing Oxford-GSK collaboration, including: i) Using multi-scale (within-host and population-scale) epidemiological models to optimise vaccine dosing (for vaccine development); ii) Improving vaccine targeting and timing for different pathogens and populations.
The postdoctoral researchers will contribute to the activities of the Infectious Disease Modelling research group and write up the results of their work for publication in refereed journals. There will be opportunities to contribute a small amount of teaching to the department, of at most three hours per week during the academic terms.
