Two post-doctoral positions in Biodiversity Science and Disease Ecology (2.5 years)
There are two posts available – they will be embedded in a lab whose focus is broadly understand the impact of global change (e.g., climate, land-use and demographic change) on biodiversity and human health.
One position will focus on understanding the spill-over of vector-borne pathogens in areas undergoing widespread land-use change. This work will partly focus on West-Nile disease and related arboviruses, examining changes to reported cases with increasing habitat disturbance using mixed-effects statistical models. A secondary aim will encompass fine scale modelling of movements of vector-borne diseases in UK and Europe.
The second position will focus on modelling changes to areas at risk of zoonotic diseases. This work will involve geospatial and statistical data analyses at global scales to capture spatial variation and seasonal pathogen infection dynamics in host species. The postholder will coordinate the ongoing development of an epi-ecological modelling framework for disease-carrying species and help to produce an online portal to allow users to interact with data and carry out analyses.
