Tracking the transmission and evolution of viruses in pigs
Track and analyze how viruses spread and evolve in pigs using one of the best epidemiological datasets in the world: 10 yrs of infection data from >50% of the U.S. breeding pig population (Morrison Swine Health Monitoring Project). PRRSV is a hyper-endemic and highly contagious disease that impacts 1 in 5 breeding farms in the U.S., and tracking and containing the regional spread of this disease in swine populations is a constant challenge. Data includes spatiotemporal information on where and when farms become infected with endemic viruses (PRRS and others), animal movements between farms, and 20,000 sequences associated with outbreaks. The postdoc will have the opportunity to develop their own hypotheses using this rich dataset and will work closely with industry stakeholders.
