Three-year postdoc position that will focus on evaluating the human and animal health impacts of watershed restoration in Africa.
The Smithsonian, in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy (TNC), is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow to evaluate how ecosystem restoration and sustainable land management influence human and livestock health.
This position focuses on TNC’s Africa Water Funds—initiatives that restore upstream ecosystems to enhance water quality and supply for large cities. The fellow will build an evidence base linking nature-based water interventions to epidemiological outcomes, helping to design future projects that better account for their health benefits. This US-based fellow will collaborate with a Kenya-based fellow, with expertise in development economics/finance.
We’re especially interested in candidates who:
- Works at the intersection of ecology, epidemiology, and public health
- Have strong skills in causal modeling and statistical inference, ideally with dynamical systems or Bayesian statistics
- Are excited about connecting environmental restoration to public and animal health outcomes
