Three positions of Assistant / Associate Professor in the School of Life Sciences at the University of Warwick, UK
Applications are invited for three positions of Assistant or Associate Professor in the School of Life Sciences at the University of Warwick in the UK.
The School of Life Sciences (SLS) would like to appoint excellent and ambitious early career scientists to our academic staff. We are looking for individuals who are capable of developing innovative and original research programmes that address current and future challenges in life science, such as environmental change, sustainable intensification, biology of disease, understanding whole organism dynamics or engineering biology. Your research must complement our existing portfolio, which includes environmental biosciences, plant and crop sciences, biomedical sciences, synthetic biology and biotechnology. Researchers who can bridge between SLS themes and other departments are particularly encouraged. You will have a strong publication profile and a track record of writing or contributing to successful grant proposals. Successful candidates will benefit from Warwick’s continuing investment in STEM and our strong research and teaching community.
Research within SLS is supported by cutting-edge experimental and computational facilities, including genomics, proteomics, advanced confocal, flow cytometry, light and electron microscopy facilities, bioinformatics, close links to analytical capabilities in Chemistry and Physics as well as the Alan Turing Institute, specialist insect, fish and rodent support units, plus fully supported controlled environment facilities near Gibbet Hill and field and glasshouse capabilities at our Wellesbourne campus. SLS attracts a diverse, vibrant, high-achieving community of undergraduate and postgraduate students from a number of Doctoral Training Programmes. We deliver high quality teaching using a blend of traditional and innovative teaching methods, and consistently achieve high scores in the National Student Satisfaction survey. You must therefore also be able to show commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate education. You will contribute to small group tutorials, research projects, practical sessions and lectures and will be encouraged to innovate with teaching delivery.
We believe that collegiality, openness, inclusivity and diversity are essential for an excellent research and teaching environment, and we particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups. Our workplace ethic has enabled us to gain an Athena SWAN Silver award.
To be considered for one of these positions, please complete the online application, including a CV and names of three expert referees. Please also provide a covering letter of no more than three pages outlining how you meet the job description and associated criteria, as well as your future research objectives and aspirations. Please include details on how you will attract funding to develop your research portfolio, describe what makes your research distinctive, and outline how you would develop collaborations within SLS and externally. Please also state whether you wish to be considered for the Assistant or Associate Professor position.
