Within the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH), the Biostatistics Unit is offering a number of

PhD positions in Statistics

The positions are in the areas of spatio-temporal modelling, disease burden estimation and disease surveillance and linked to a large research project entitled « A cross-disciplinary alliance to identify, predict and prepare for emerging vector-borne diseases», which has been funded by the European Union.
The successful applicants will be registered for a PhD degree at the University of Basel. The studentships provide support for 3 years and cover tuition fees and a doctoral salary at Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) scale. The position is available immediately, but a later starting date is possible by negotiation.

Required qualifications are:
• A two-year MSc degree (120 ECTs) in Mathematics, Physics, engineering or Statistics
• Strong programming skills in at least one programming language such as R, Python, C++, Fortran
• Knowledge in topics such as Bayesian inference and computation, Stochastic processes
• Very good English speaking and writing skills
