We provide strong training in research methods and opportunities for the application of epidemiology to a wide range of health problems through our research. The achievements of our faculty, staff, students, and alumni have enabled us to become one of the leading academic departments of epidemiology in the world. The Department of Epidemiology in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is recruiting two research track Assistant Professors to work with a highly collaborative team on projects aimed at developing innovative methods for infectious disease modeling and analytics for use in future infectious disease crises, building relationships and transferring innovative tools to public health departments, and developing the next generation of specialists in epidemic dynamics. The successful candidate will have demonstrated skills in infectious disease modeling, advanced analytic techniques, and/or machine learning methods. Experience working directly with health departments and other decision-makers and in fast-paced analytic responses to crises is also desirable, as is demonstrated experience modeling important disease systems such as SARS-CoV-2, influenza, dengue, or HIV.
The successful candidate will join the newly formed Atlantic Coast Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics and Analytics (ACCIDDA). ACCIDDA is part of the newly formed CDC-funded network of centers of excellence for Outbreak Analytics and Disease Modeling (OADM), named Insight Net, and includes the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, the University of Florida, and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. In addition to being a Center of Innovation, ACCIDDA serves as the coordinating center for the OADM network. Work with this center will provide numerous opportunities to work with other Insight Net centers and participating public health partners, as well as have a direct impact on the work of the CDC Center for Forecasting and Outbreak Analytics.
