The Department of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases (EMD) in the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH) is seeking to hire two full-time faculty members at the rank of Assistant Professor who conduct research in the following broad areas of emphasis:
􀁸 Field-based epidemiology and/or ecology of infectious diseases;
􀁸 Laboratory or translational research focused on pathogenesis, microbial, host or vector biology and/or genomics;
􀁸 Evaluation and implementation research on drugs, vaccines, diagnostics and/or other interventions for infectious diseases;
􀁸 Research developing and employing mathematical models, quantitative epidemiological and other statistical methods utilizing large population datasets.
􀁸 Research on the social determinants of the risks and outcomes associated with infectious diseases.

Successful candidates will be expected to develop an independent research program, mentor MPH and PhD students, and teach at least one course at the masters/doctoral level. Applicants should have a doctoral degree by the start of appointment in epidemiology, microbiology, medicine, veterinary medicine, or a related field, and evidence of a promising scholarly career.

As one of the first schools of public health in the nation, YSPH has a rich history of being at the forefront of innovative research and education. EMD serves local, national, and international communities through its high impact interdisciplinary research and training of a diverse group of undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students. With a commitment to equity in research and practice, EMD maintains strong collaborations with over a dozen research institutions around the globe, many public health departments across the US and non-governmental organizations representing vulnerable populations here and abroad. The research activities of EMD faculty span the biology, epidemiology, control and policy implications of a diverse array of domestic and global infectious diseases, including HIV, TB, malaria, African trypanosomiasis, vector-borne and zoonotic diseases, neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), bacterial infections and emerging public health threats like COVID-19 and mpox, pandemic influenza and other respiratory and enteric infections.

The Department maintains partnerships with programs and institutions open to all faculty members, including the Public Health Modeling Unit, Fogarty Global Health Equity Scholars Program, multiple NIH-funded international training programs, the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS, and the CDC-funded Emerging Infections Program. Faculty also benefit from access to state-of-the-art laboratory infrastructure that includes a modern insectarium, BSL-3 and genomic facilities, and the extensive computational resources of Yale University. In addition, faculty have opportunities to affiliate with innovative interdisciplinary university programs, including the Yale Institute for Global Health, the Global Health Justice Partnership at the Schools of Public Health and Law, and the Yale Center on Climate Change and Health. The school also offers a mentorship program pairing new faculty with senior members of their home departments to assist in career development at Yale.
