Tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor in Bacterial Evolution

The Laboratory of Applied Evolutionary Biology, Department of Medical Microbiology, Academic Medical Center (AMC), University of Amsterdam invites applications for a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor in bacterial evolution. Level of appointment will depend on qualifications. The position can be taken up immediately.

The Laboratory of Applied Evolutionary Biology (LAEB) was recently established within the Department of Medical Microbiology of the AMC with the goal of creating a center of excellence in computational and evolutionary biology for infectious diseases to complement ongoing basic, translational and clinical research in virology, bacteriology and parasitology. The Department also houses (inter)national reference laboratories for Bacterial Meninigitis and Leptospirosis. As part of the growth and ambition of the Laboratory of Applied Evolutionary Biology, we are seeking a colleague to lead our work in bacterial evolution.

You are an ambitious researcher with a strong background in bacterial evolution focusing on host-pathogen interaction and/or antimicrobial resistance with an emphasis on computational research. You have a PhD in evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, mathematics, biophysics, or a related field. You have a track record of publishing in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals and of attracting independent research funding. You will be expected to develop and lead a cutting-edge research program including publishing studies in high-quality journals, attracting research funding, supervising PhD students and postdocs, and contributing to the academic life of the department.

• The gross per month salary range is €4380,- to €5692,- for Assistant Professors or €5229,- to €6665,- for Associate Professors, based on 38 hours per week (scale CAO UMC).
• In addition to the monthly salary there is an annual holiday allowance (8%) and year-end bonus (8,3%).
• We initially offer an appointment for 12 months, with the prospect of a permanent appointment (this is a standard probationary period for all new faculty).
