Statistical analysis to support assessment of elimination and eradication of polio
We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to provide epidemiological expertise in assessing elimination of poliovirus within key countries such as Pakistan and Afghanistan. In this project the post holder will collaborate with the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, and especially in-country epidemiologists, to deliver analysis and modelling to support the final stages of polio eradication. Of particular interest is the development and delivery of statistical modelling of data that assesses the probability of elimination, both locally and internationally. The postholder will work with a diverse range of available data, and the outputs will support the improvement of poliovirus surveillance, and provide metrics of elimination for stakeholders and field epidemiologists.
The successful applicant will have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree in epidemiology, statistics, mathematical modelling or another relevant discipline with a strong quantitative component.
Candidates should demonstrate programming experience using specialist mathematical or statistical packages and/or programming languages, ideally R and have experience in the analysis of epidemiological data, ideally surveillance data. They should also have experience in the communication of findings to stakeholders.
The post is full-time and fixed-term until 31 December 2023 with potential for extension. The post is funded by the WHO and available immediately.
