Spatial Epidemiology and Mathematical Modelling of VPDs in China

Spatial Epidemiology and Mathematical Modelling of vaccine preventable diseases in China

Faculty of Epidemiology & Population Health
Salary: £38,533 to £43,759 per annum inclusive
Closing Date: Thursday 11 January 2018

We are recruiting a Research Fellow in Spatial Epidemiology and Mathematical Modelling to join the Department of Infectious Diseases Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). The post will be funded until July 2020 through a research grant from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) in the UK on an interdisciplinary and collaborative project with Public Health England, Fudan University and China CDC to use advanced epidemiological methods including spatial statistics and mathematical modelling to inform vaccination policy in China. The post-holder will be responsible for exploring the spatial heterogeneity and predictors of vaccine coverage, risk factor prevalence and disease incidence in China. Duties will also include supervision and guidance of junior researchers and their projects including influenza, pneumococcal and hand food and mouth disease vaccine epidemiology and modelling.

The post-holder will be supervised by Dr Stefan Flasche and will join a highly successful and supportive group, with considerable scope to develop their own research within the field, in collaboration with colleagues at LSHTM, Fudan University, China, and other international partners. It is expected that the project will involve a range of complex and original scientific research that requires a high degree of personal motivation.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in statistics, mathematical modelling, epidemiology or another relevant discipline with a strong quantitative component. Candidates should also demonstrate experience in mathematical modelling and/ spatial statistics preferably on infectious diseases, and have a promising publication record. Further particulars are included in the attached job description.

The post-holder will be based in London, with regular travel to China.
