Senior Research Associate in Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases
The role
This post offers an excellent opportunity for a Senior Research Associate to join a multi-disciplinary research team of mathematical modelers, epidemiologists and health economists based in Population Health Sciences at Bristol Medical School. You will contribute expertise in mathematical modelling on the transmission dynamics and impact of interventions on HCV, HIV/AIDS and other infections. The post is funded for 12 months in the first instance and will provide a valuable opportunity for obtaining research training and experience. The post is full-time, although part-time will be considered.
What will you be doing?
The post will involve undertaking mathematical modelling and possible epidemiological analyses focussed on evaluating the impact of different interventions addressing gaps in testing and treatment for HCV that enhance HCV epidemics, with a specific focus on transgender women in San Francisco. You will be involved in the technical aspect of modelling, developing a model of HCV and HIV transmission among transgender women, and undertaking data analyses to parameterise the model. You will collaborate with other members of the team. There may also be the opportunity to collaborate on projects which focus on other high-risk groups such as people who inject drugs.
You should apply if
You have experience in mathematical modelling, preferably of infectious diseases. You must have experience of developing and coding up dynamical models (using Matlab, R or similar), the ability to design and undertake modelling experiments involving data and uncertainty. Skills in undertaking epidemiological data analyses are desirable (using STATA, R or similar packages). You will have strong IT and communication skills and work effectively within a team environment that includes non-mathematicians. It is desirable that you will have an interest in the health issues of others.
