Senior R Developer / Data Scientist Technical Support - Vaccine Impact Modelling Consortium

The newly established Vaccine Impact Modelling Consortium (www.vaccineimpact.org) is based within the MRC Centre for Outbreak Analysis and Modelling at Imperial College London and funded jointly by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. The MRC Centre has built upon a world-leading research group in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology to undertake applied collaborative work with national and international agencies in support of policy planning for emerging and endemic infectious diseases.

We are seeking a motivated Senior R Developer to assist with the development of open-source packages for collecting and analysing vaccine impact simulations contributed by 10+ modelling groups, which are then created into reproducible and auditable reports to communicate the results to the funders, the modellers, and other stakeholders.

This is an exciting role offering the opportunity for the successful candidate to expand their skills set (e.g. reproducible research, Javascript and C/C++ application development). The role will require the post holder to interact with the end user community (necessitating some national/international travel). The post holder will work closely with the research scientists and technical staff of the Consortium and the MRC Centre at large. This post may appeal to you if you currently work as a Research Software Engineer or similar.

The person appointed to this key research support role will have an MSc in computer science or equivalent experience, with a PhD in a subject with a strong mathematics and/or computing component being highly desirable. Experience of simulation programming, postgresql databases and docker would be an advantage, as would application of these skills to infectious disease modelling or a related area.

This is a full time, fixed term post available for two years.
