RF post at LSHTM to model #covid-19 spread in Europe; part of EU grant to inform covid-19 response; work with Mark Jit, John Edmunds and @cmmid_lshtm.
We are recruiting a Research Fellow in Infectious Disease Modelling to be part of EpiPose, a consortium set up as part of a 3-year European Commission grant to the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and other European partners. The purpose of the consortium is to provide urgently needed answers about the epidemiological characteristics of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the social dynamics of the outbreak, related public health preparedness and response to the ongoing epidemic, as well as to assess its economic impact.
The post-holder will adapt, build and parameterize models in real-time of COVID-19 transmission both within and across European countries, and use them to investigate the impact of interventions such as social distancing, travel restrictions and in the medium-term, vaccination. These models will benefit from data collected as part of the consortium as well as by partner public health organizations, including line lists of cases, social contact surveys, news report collections and health care surveillance databases. The wider consortium brings together modellers, epidemiologists and health economists from Public Health England, University of Antwerp, University of Hasselt, National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) of the Netherlands, University of Bern and the Institute for Scientific Interchange (ISI) in Italy.
The post-holder will work with Prof. Mark Jit and Prof. John Edmunds, joining a world-leading leading and highly collaborative infectious disease modelling group with a very active programme of COVID-19 modelling work that is being used to inform decision making in the UK, rest of Europe and around the world (see https://cmmid.github.io/topics/covid19/). Hence the postholder will operate in a supportive, dynamic and fast-moving environment with excellent opportunities to show scientific productivity, including publications, participation in future grant applications and outputs that are crucial to major public health decisions over the next 3 years.
