(up to E 14 TVöD )

We are looking for additional staff for our unit 33 "Immunization" in Berlin-Mitte, which is responsible for the surveillance and control of vaccine preventable diseases. Become part of our department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology in one of the largest German departmental research institutions. We count on you!

Your tasks

In the field of vaccination prevention, an interdisciplinary team is being set up to deal with the mathematical modeling of vaccinations and vaccine-preventable diseases. The work serves to support the decision-making process of the Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) on the introduction of new vaccinations and vaccination strategies in Germany.
The task includes the coordination and implementation of modelling projects to estimate the epidemiological and health-economic effects of vaccinations and different vaccination strategies in the German health system, in particular:
• independent development of dynamic transmission models for modeling infectious diseases
• independent research for the generation or processing of input data for models (e.g. evaluation of reporting data or health care data)
• presentation and discussion of the project results in the STIKO or in STIKO working groups
• presentation of the results at national and international conferences as well as publication in scientific journals

Your profile

Formal requirements

• University degree in mathematics, (bio)informatics, physics, statistics, engineering, health economics or a comparable course (master/university diploma) 
• A Ph.D. is desired 

In the case of foreign educational qualifications, we require proof of equivalence with a German qualification.

Knowledge and experience

• Comprehensive and documented experience in the creation and parameter identification of dynamic models, e.g. based on time series models, (stochastic) differential equations, adaptive control
• Very good knowledge of statistics and statistical programming (e.g. C++/R/Python/Matlab) 

Additionally desirable

• Experience in the analysis of data on vaccinations and mathematical modeling of vaccinations 
• Experience in working with reproducible statistical analyzes (e.g. literate programming, version control) and their user-oriented visualization 
• Experience in interdisciplinary cooperation, e.g. in medicine and epidemiology 
• Experience in preparing publications in international journals 

Other requirements

• Language skills ( CEFR level): German at least B1 and English at least C1
