Research Scientist, Vaccine-Preventable Diseases
IHME has an excellent opportunity for a Research Scientist to join our Vaccine Coverage and Vaccine-Preventable Disease team. We are looking for someone ready to advance in their career in global health research. As a Research Scientist, you will be contributing to research design, training, leading and/or mentoring junior staff. IHME researchers analyze and produce key estimates for their assigned research team and will assess all available relevant quantitative data – including those on causes of death, epidemiology, and a range of determinants – from surveys, vital registration, censuses, literature, registries, and administrative records as needed.
The Vaccine Coverage and Vaccine-Preventable Disease team at IHME focuses on the production of high-quality, reliable disease burden estimates for selected vaccine-preventable diseases for the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study. In addition, we use state-of-the-art geospatial modeling techniques to estimate local patterns of vaccine coverage and vaccine-preventable disease burden. We partner with global, regional, and country collaborators to ensure that our estimates reflect accurate trends in vaccine coverage and disease burden and improve the evidence base for policy decisions. The Research Scientist identified for this position will lead efforts to estimate the burden of measles, pertussis, tetanus, diphtheria, and varicella/herpes zoster for GBD, while developing innovative methods and coordinating the translation of results to support policy decisions in collaboration with our partners. In addition, we expect opportunities to contribute to and integrate this work with our ongoing local coverage and disease burden estimates.
