Research Scientist / Epidemiologist

The Department of Epidemiology (headed by Professor Dr. med. Gérard Krause) at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig has a vacancy for a Scientific Assistant / Epidemiologist The Department of Epidemiology at the HZI consists of more than 50 staff members. We investigate the fundamental relationships of the occurrence, spread and prevention of infectious diseases in the human population on a national and international level. In the Clinical Epidemiology & Evidence Synthesis team (headed by Dr. Berit Lange), we conduct clinical and population-based epidemiological studies (e.g. https://hzi-c19-antikoerperstudie.de), do evidence synthesis and meta-analyses (www.serohub.net), and investigate the dynamics of respiratory infectious diseases within large modeling networks (e.g. www.respinow.de). At the German Center for Infection Research (www.dzif.de), we are active as co-coordinator of the Translational Infrastructure Bioresources, Biodata and Digital Health unit.

TASKS
Planning and evaluation of evidence synthesis and epidemiological studies.
Assume leadership roles in collaborative scientific projects
First- and co-authorship of scientific publications
Methodological-statistical supervision of PhD students and consultation of external and internal collaborations in the context of infectious disease epidemiology
Teaching in the PhD program "Epidemiology
Acquisition of external funding
Preparation of project reports

REQUIREMENTS
University degree in health sciences, medicine, public health with quantitative orientation, epidemiology, statistics or computer science with focus on data science or a related subject
Doctorate
High degree of independence, strong organizational skills and willingness to work hard
Very good knowledge of statistics
Very good knowledge in the analysis of epidemiological studies
Very good knowledge of R and/or STATA
Knowledge of German and very good knowledge of English
Advantageous are:

Knowledge/experience in mathematical modeling of infectious diseases
Knowledge/experience in the field of meta-analyses and meta-regression
Experience in statistical supervision of epidemiological/medical studies, doctoral and master theses
Teaching experience and knowledge in higher education didactics
