Research Fellow position modelling epidemic-prone infections
Applications are invited for an infectious disease modeller to join the Centre for the Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). The post involves developing mathematical models of infectious disease transmission in the UK, focusing on COVID-19 and other epidemic-prone infections. This will involve combining dynamics models with epidemiological, immunological and behavioural data sources to understand outbreak dynamics, as well as designing improved forecasting methods to inform outbreak preparation and response.
The post-holder will be supervised by Dr Adam Kucharski as part of the NIHR-funded Health Protection Research Unit in Modelling and Health Economics, in collaboration with Public Health England and Imperial College London. They will join a successful and supportive modelling centre at LSHTM working on a range of infections, including influenza and SARS- CoV-2, with scope to develop their own research within the field, in collaboration with colleagues at LSHTM and external partners. It is expected that the project will involve a range of complex and original scientific research that requires a high degree of personal motivation.
The successful applicant will have a PhD or equivalent research experience in mathematical modelling, statistics, epidemiology or another relevant discipline with a strong quantitative component. Candidates should also demonstrate experience in mathematical modelling, preferably of epidemic- prone infections, and have a promising publication record. This full-time post is funded until 31 December 2022. The salary will be on the Academic pathways Grade 6 in the range £40,011 - £45,437 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff.
