Research Fellow/PhD-student position as part of our initiative “Strengthening modeling competence for the spread of serious infectious diseases”

The Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, Medical Faculty, Research Group Health Economics/Health Services Research offers a position for a

Research Fellow/PhD-student (13 TV-L, 75%/30 h) (m-f-d)

The position is available as soon as possible and limited to 3 years.

Together with other departments of the University Medicine, the Research Group Health Economics plans to establish a Center for Mathematical Modeling in Medical Sciences. A broad spectrum of methods (e.g. Markov models, discrete event simulations, differential equation models, network models, agent-based modeling) will be used in the center. Topics range from pandemic preparedness for respiratory infections, evaluation of infectious disease prevention measures and early cancer detection to health economic analyses in the field of rare diseases. In these areas, the group has recently been able to acquire a number of high-profile third-party funded projects. Being part of the modeling center provides excellent scientific opportunities in an interdisciplinary team with diverse international partners to advance research in these areas.

Tasks:
• Scientific work in the field of mathematical modeling and/or health economic evaluations
• Writing grant proposals for external funding
• Reporting and publication of study results
• Support in teaching (seminars/exercises) and mentoring of bachelor/master graduates
• Opportunity for further academic qualification (PhD) is given

Requirements:
• University degree (diploma, master in mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science, economics, epidemiology, public health or related field)
• Excellent mathematical/statistical knowledge
• Experience and competence in developing mathematical models or very good programming skills are an asset
• Innovative, independent and reliable scientific working behavior
• Proactive team player paired with talent for organization
• Good/excellent command of English, both spoken and written, basic knowledge of German is a plus
