Research Fellow in Modelling and Vaccine Evaluation for Emerging Infections

Applications are invited for a mathematical modeller to join the Centre for the Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). The post holder will work on a large project studying transmission of emerging infections, to improve the design of vaccine trials during outbreaks.

This post involves design of transmission models for priority emerging diseases and fitting those models to available data. The post-holder will focus initially on Crimean Congo Haemorrhagic Fever, with other pathogens to be determined as work progresses. The post-holder will use transmission models to simulate and evaluate phase 3 vaccine trials, and determine optimal trial designs and vaccination strategies for outbreaks of these diseases.

The successful candidate will have a PhD (or submitted) in mathematical modelling, statistics, or a quantitative discipline, with a component on infectious disease transmission, or an MSc and extensive experience. Experience of constructing and analysing mathematical or statistical models of infectious diseases is essential, along with familiarity with statistical approaches for model fitting. Further particulars are included in the job description.

The appointment is based in London, available immediately and is funded until 31 March 2021. The appointment will be made on LSHTM’s Research Fellow scale, Grade 6 (with a starting salary of £39,304 per annum). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.
