Research Fellow in Ebola Virus Disease Modelling

Applications are invited for a mathematical modeller to join the Centre for the Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). The post holder will work on a large project to evaluate Ebola vaccine trials and vaccination strategies.

The post involves analysing individual level social network data from Ebola-affected communities, and investigating the transmission of Ebola Virus Disease. The post-holder will quantify network characteristics from raw data, and use insights from these data to design and simulate phase 3 vaccine trials. This work will involve development and parameterisation of vaccination models that incorporate onset of immunity in vaccinated participants. There is scope for self-motivated research within the remit of the larger study.

The candidate will join a highly successful and supportive team at the forefront of Ebola modelling, and will have scope to develop their own research within this field, in collaboration with colleagues at LSHTM and elsewhere. It is expected that the work will involve a range of original scientific work and requires a high degree of personal motivation.

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in mathematical modelling, statistics, network science or quantitative discipline with a substantial component on infectious diseases, have expertise using specialist mathematical or statistical packages, ideally C/C++ and R. They will be highly motivated, able to write clearly and produce high quality written reports and be able to work well within a team environment. The ideal candidate will have a publication record in the field of modelling or statistical analysis of infectious diseases. Experience of analysing social network data would be an advantage.Further particulars are included in the job description.
