Research Assistant/Associate Professor for Microbial Genomics Epidemiology Laboratory

The Microbial Genomics Epidemiology Laboratory (MiGEL) within the Center for Genomic Epidemiology (CGE), Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh, is recruiting a Research Assistant Professor/Research Associate Professor. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to ongoing genomic epidemiology research efforts and will serve as Co-Investigator and Laboratory Director. MiGEL research is focused on the development and implementation of real-time genomic epidemiology to understand transmission and evolution of bacterial and respiratory viral pathogens. The Laboratory Director is responsible for laboratory oversight and for reporting these results in a timely manner to hospital Infection Prevention. Experience in laboratory management and microbial genomics is required. The candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator to direct daily laboratory operations and develop new genomic epidemiologic tools. The successful candidate must have a doctoral or Masters degree in a relevant field of study such as microbiology, virology, or molecular genetics. The position requires excellent analytical and problem-solving skills as well as an ability to prioritize multiple, competing demands.
