The Role:
Public Health Ontario is looking to hire a postdoctoral fellow for bioinformatics and genomic projects for tuberculosis (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) genomes. Interested candidates with a doctoral degree in any areas of biology relating to genomics, bioinformatics, and microbiology are encouraged to apply. This position offers an exciting opportunity to gain experience in genomic epidemiology within a public health setting.
Key Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will analyse sequence data by Public Health Ontario
Collaborate closely with microbiologist(s) and the principal investigator (PI) to develop pipelines for genomic analysis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, specifically pipelines for Antimicrobial resistance detection and prediction as well as outbreak analysis
Participate in regular meetings with the research team to share progress and insights, discuss findings, and refine the research objectives and methodologies
Data Management: Organize and maintain a comprehensive sequence database with associated metadata
Analyze and synthesize research findings from various sources to identify key trends, data types, emerging technologies, and gaps in the existing literature
Deadline Adherence: Meet project deadlines and milestones in a timely manner while maintaining the quality and accuracy of the work
Experience with python, SQL, a workflow language (snakemake or nextflow), and/or unix environment is preferred
Qualifications:
PhD degree in a relevant field (e.g., biology, microbiology, pathology, public health, computer science, or a related discipline).
Possibility of renewal contingent upon funding.
