Programming language in Excel to manage some aspects of data collection
You are looking for a meaningful professional experience?
Epicenter uses the VBA programming language in Excel to manage some aspects of data collection and management in several clinical trials and for epidemiological surveillance.
To increase our internal capacities in VBA programming, especially on a data collection tool during an epidemic, Epicenter is recruiting an Excel / VBA programmer (M / F) directly under the responsibility of the Data Science Team Manager.
You will lead the project to unify, standardize and automate an ad-hoc development process of Excel files that has been underway for years, to save time and facilitate the maintenance of our collection tools.
You will evolve within the Data Science team, integrated in the Research department.
What you will bring
Skills to perform your main activities:
Technical skills: You will iteratively develop an Excel / VBA framework to automatically generate a tool for collecting and analyzing epidemiological data from a predefined configuration file. With your expertise, you will be able to integrate this Excel / VBA framework into the data management processes of our organization (clinical databases, R scripts for cleaning and visualization, R Shiny Dashboard), and participate in communication and training on using this tool.
You will follow up in terms of actual operation and necessary maintenance, and you will be rigorous in clearly documenting the technical details of your work in order to facilitate collaboration with other team members and ensure quality control.
You will also be responsible for writing or collaborating in the writing of documentation: operating manual or user guide, among others.
Team management skills: We will be counting on you to ensure the reversibility of the solution by ensuring knowledge transfer to team members.
You will demonstrate a capacity for collaboration with the permanent team at the Paris headquarters and users (epidemiologists and teams in the field).
Educational & Experience: you are graduated in Computer Science (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree), or you have at least 2 to 5 years of experience in advanced knowledge of Excel and VBA. Computer skills, knowledge and use of best practices (version control, commented code, etc.) are required. A link to your GitHub account or other accessible code examples will be appreciated. Knowledge of computer databases is a plus. Fluency in English and French (oral and written) is required.
You are appreciated for your adaptability, your rigor and your autonomy. You have a proven ability to work in a team and with colleagues with diverse profiles (epidemiologists, data entry operators, statisticians, etc.) and to demonstrate open-mindedness, curiosity, sensitivity to ergonomics, to content and in the meaning of data. You know how to adapt to new situations, be flexible, with a propensity for continuous improvement and innovation of tools.
You have an interest in the humanitarian environment and public health issues, and you share and adhere to MSF's values.
What you will get!
You will work with a multicultural team in the field of epidemiological research.
You will evolve in the humanitarian environment.
Your contributions and ideas will be valued and highly appreciated.
