Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join Oxford Martin School Programme on Digital Pandemic Preparedness working with Christl Donnelly & Moritz Kraemer

Preparing for future pandemics is one of the greatest health challenges of the modern era. We face an unprecedented rate of exposure to a range of pathogens, with outbreaks, epidemics and pandemics on the rise. This is an excellent opportunity for a bright and enthusiastic researcher to develop their career in statistical epidemiology within the internationally leading Department of Statistics in the University of Oxford at this critical time in the field.

This role is key within the Oxford Martin Programme on Digital Pandemic Preparedness. This Programme https://www.oxfordmartin.ox.ac.uk/digital-pandemic-preparedness, established in October 2024, will develop a blueprint for digital health systems that can be deployed during pandemics, create a funding model for implementation, and work with public health agencies to develop the next generation of pandemic-ready digital tools. The Programme is directed by research leaders Professors Christophe Fraser, Michael Parker, Melinda Mills, Christl Donnelly and Moritz Kraemer.

Based in the Department of Statistics, the post holder will be a member of a research group with responsibility for carrying out research on the analysis of digitally collected data for epidemiological inference and monitoring of transmission during epidemic, reporting to Professors Christl Donnelly and Moritz Kraemer. The postholder will develop, program and fit models as are appropriate for the available data relating to (opportunities for) disease transmission, including (but not limited to) digital contact tracing data. The post holder will provide guidance to junior members of the research group including research assistants and DPhil students.

The post is fixed-term (33 months until 30 Sept 2027).
