Postdoctoral position in mathematical modelling of multi-pathogen serological data

The Infectious Disease Epidemiology & Analytics G5 Unit at Institut Pasteur utilises tools from molecular biology, serology, and statistical and mathematical modelling to investigate the epidemiology of malaria, neglected tropical diseases, SARS-CoV-2, and other infectious diseases. Building on our Unit’s long-standing expertise in multiplex serological assays, we have developed sensitive and specific serological assays to detect previous infection with multiple pathogens.

We are seeking a candidate for a post-doctoral position with expertise in statistics, data analytics, or mathematical modelling of infectious diseases to work on the following projects:
• Develop statistical methods for the analysis of serological data from longitudinal studies implemented in Senegal focusing on malaria, neglected tropical diseases and arboviruses.
• Develop statistical methods for the implementation of multi-pathogen surveillance in large serological surveys in France focusing on respiratory pathogens and immunity induced by routine vaccinations.

The successful candidate will be given a one-year contract on a European Research Council project: “Algorithms and multiplex assays for integrated serological surveillance of malaria and neglected tropical diseases”. At the end of the first year, should both parties agree, the contract will be renewed for a further two years.

A large degree of flexibility will be given to the candidate to pursue their own independent research interests.

Interested candidates should contact Dr Michael White (michael.white@pasteur.fr) with a statement of interest and a CV including contact details of two academic referees.

Location: Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Analytics G5 Unit, Institut Pasteur, 25-28 Rue du Dr Roux, 75015 Paris, France.

Person specifications:
• Research experience of working with mathematical and/or statistical models.
• A strong interest in infectious disease epidemiology.
• Advanced knowledge of programming language (required: R. desirable: C, C++ ).
• Ability to collate and analyse data, interpret, and present results to a high standard using a range of specialised research techniques.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The working language of the laboratory is English.
• Experience in communicating research findings to a non-specialist audience.
• PhD in one of the following areas: infectious disease epidemiology, statistics, population biology, mathematics, physics, computer science or a similarly quantitative discipline.
