Postdoctoral position in computational modeling of infectious disease epidemiology

The Ndeffo Lab has a position available for a postdoctoral associate, who will be based at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University. The position focuses on computational/simulation modeling of infectious disease epidemiology. We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and experienced candidate to join our research team.

Research projects will address important and timely questions in public and global health. These include among others: (1) modeling and understanding local heterogeneity in disease transmission, (2) human behavior modeling, (3) optimization models for disease surveillance (4) mechanistically-informed machine learning models for disease forecasting. Potential projects may focus on COVID-19 modeling, vector-borne diseases, macro-parasitic diseases, vaccine preventable diseases, or other applied topics in infectious disease epidemiology. The candidate should have prior research experience with developing, parameterizing, fitting (e.g. Bayesian inference), and validating models. Strong programming skills in at least one of the following languages (MATLAB, Mathematica, R, Python), and Ability to work independently and execute research projects with minimal supervision. Experience with individual-based (agent-based) models or stochastic models, is a plus. The ideal candidate will have strong quantitative, computational, and communication skills demonstrated by past productivity including peer-reviewed publications and/or other scientific and technical output on modeling infectious disease dynamics /epidemiology.

Review of applications will begin immediately, and the position will remain open until filled. The expected start date is flexible. Initial funding for the position is available for 2 years. A competitive salary will be commensurate with experience. The position comes with a standard benefits package available at Texas A&M University.
