Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate to join the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology in the School of Public Health at Imperial College London.

We are seeking an excellent postdoctoral research scientist to work on the epidemiology of polio, including analysis of global surveillance data maintained by the WHO. You will have the opportunity to analyse both traditional disease surveillance data (e.g. case data) and also genetic sequence data including deep sequencing data.

You will work closely with the polio team in the Vaccine Epidemiology Research Group and have access to excellent peer support from other members of the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology and the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis. You will also communicate and meet with task teams from the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) and with staff at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The post would be especially suited to someone with experience in epidemiological analysis or mathematical modelling of infectious disease data and/or genetic sequence data but we will also consider applications from enthusiastic individuals with appropriate mathematical, statistical or biological skills. You will be expected to produce high quality research, submit publications to scientific journals, attend and present at conferences and attend meetings with researchers and policy-makers relevant to the field.

Applicants should have a PhD in epidemiology, statistics, mathematics, physics, biology, or similar quantitative discipline with ability to implement advanced statistical methods in R or similar programming language. An interest in spatial analysis of surveillance data is desirable.

This post is full time and fixed term until 30 November 2020 and will be based at the St Mary’s Campus, Paddington. Imperial College is supportive of flexible working.
