postdoctoral fellowship in mathematical modeling of typhoid vaccination strategies

We are thrilled to announce an opening for a talented postdoctoral scholar to join our team at Stanford. Our group is dedicated to identifying effective solutions for combating typhoid fever—one of the most devastating infectious diseases globally. This fellowship provides an opportunity to contribute to research developing innovative strategies for public health control of typhoid fever through vaccination in in high-risk populations. The postdoctoral fellow will work with Drs. Jason Andrews and Nathan Lo, along with research partners at the Sabin Vaccine Institute, Aga Khan University and Kathmandu University.

The goal of this work is to identify effective strategies for provision of vaccines to reduce the burden of typhoid fever in low- and middle-income countries. Our ongoing studies in Pakistan and Nepal provide unique opportunities to leverage the latest data on typhoid burden and vaccination gaps for informing response strategies. The postdoctoral fellow will leverage these primary data, together with publicly available surveillance datasets, to develop and apply mathematical models investigating the potential impact of expanded vaccination policies and outbreak-responsive vaccination on typhoid incidence and outcomes. In addition to these projects, the fellow will have the freedom and support to explore other research interests related to typhoid or other infectious diseases.
