Postdoc/Research Fellow in mathematical modelling
We are seeking a 2-year, full time (1.0 FTE) Post-Doctoral Researcher or Research Fellow. The post involves the development of mechanistic models to study the transmission dynamics of pathogens spreading along farm animal contact networks.
You will leverage the wealth of novel behavioural, epidemiological, and genetic data generated by the UKRI GCRF One Health Poultry Hub (https://www.onehealthpoultry.org/) to explore the impact of chicken production intensification on the risk of zoonotic diseases, such as avian influenza, in South and Southeast Asia. You will also evaluate the effectiveness of potential risk mitigation interventions.
Furthermore, depending on your interests and expertise, you will have the possibility to contribute to ongoing projects. For instance, this may involve developing risk-based surveillance approaches for infections transmitted through livestock trading networks or assessing the contribution of contacts between fish farms to the spread of fish viruses. You will also have the opportunity to develop new research projects.
Candidates will have completed a doctoral thesis in epidemiology, network science, computational biology, mathematics, physics or another quantitative discipline. The post is especially suited to someone with experience in the mathematical modelling of infectious diseases, in particular with individual-based models, and with proficient knowledge of a computer programming language, such as C/C++ or Python.
You will be expected to submit publications to scientific journals, attend and present at conferences, contribute to research degree student supervision, and engage with other researchers from biological and social science disciplines. You will be based at the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment, in Lyon (France) under the supervision of Guillaume Fournié. Your work will involve close collaboration with the Royal Veterinary College and the University of Oxford’s Department of Biology, UK.
