Postdoctoral Research Positions in Typhoid Fever Epidemiology and Modeling

Multiple Postdoctoral Research Associate positions are available in the Pitzer group at Yale School of Public Health in the Department of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases. Our research focuses on mathematical and statistical modeling of enteric and vaccine-preventable diseases. Initial funding is for 1 year, with the possibility of extensions. On-going projects include:

Integrating data from field studies and vaccine trials to understand the epidemiology of typhoid fever
This project involves analyzing data from ongoing field studies and vaccine trials of typhoid conjugate vaccines across three field sites in Malawi, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Analyses will be used to inform updated models of disease transmission and impact of vaccination. The research team includes collaborators from Oxford University, University of Maryland, PATH, Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme, icddr,b, OUCRU, Sanger Institute, and University of Melbourne.

Cost-effectiveness of typhoid vaccination strategies
This project involves conducting cost-effectiveness analyses of typhoid vaccination strategies. The goal is to identify key uncertainties in the burden of typhoid and potential impact of vaccination, including vaccine impact on antimicrobial resistance. The project will benefit from an international collaboration to integrate data from clinical and epidemiological studies on the impact of typhoid conjugate vaccines.

Comparing model predictions for the burden of typhoid fever and impact of typhoid conjugate vaccines
This project involves efforts to coordinate with different modeling groups to examining modeling assumptions and compare predictions for (1) the incidence and morbidity/mortality burden associated with typhoid fever, and (2) the potential impact and cost-effectiveness of typhoid conjugate vaccine strategies.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in statistics, epidemiology, health policy, or other highly quantitative fields, strong computer programming skills, good oral and written communication skills, and an interest in global health. Previous experience with mathematical modeling and/or health economics is highly preferred.

Salary will be competitive and depend on skills and experience, and will include benefits. Support for travel to conferences and field sites will also be provided.
