Postdoc positions at the Laboratory of Multiscale Host–Pathogen Dynamics, Westlake University

Starting January 2026, Dr. Kaiyuan Sun is establishing the Laboratory of Multiscale Host–Pathogen Dynamics at Westlake University. The lab focuses on developing mathematical and computational models of infectious disease dynamics and host–pathogen interactions that bridge biological scales—from molecular and cellular processes to intra-host, inter-host, and population-level transmission.

The lab’s mission is to uncover the fundamental mechanisms governing respiratory virus transmission, immune protection, and evolution, and to translate these insights into actionable strategies for vaccine design, epidemic control, and pandemic preparedness. The laboratory will be primarily affiliated with the Center for Infectious Disease Research, School of Medicine, and will hold a joint appointment with the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, School of Science, at Westlake University.

The lab is seeking postdoctoral researchers with strong quantitative backgrounds and excellent programming skills to join the team. Priority research areas include integrating genomic epidemiology with infectious disease modeling, modeling and statistical analysis of household cohort data, and RSV transmission modeling. Applicants are also encouraged to propose independent research initiatives that align with the lab’s broader scientific interests. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience and institutional standards at Westlake University. Start date is flexible.
