Postdoc position (Turku, Finland) to model the epidemic dynamics of childhood infections
Postdoc position (Turku, Finland) to model the epidemic dynamics of childhood infections.
This is a 2-year position to join an interdisciplinary collaborative project funded by NordForsk, investigating the epidemic dynamics of childhood infections in developing historic Nordic societies.
The post-holder will be working with Prof. Virpi Lummaa (Department of Biology, Turku, Finland) and Dr. Michael Briga (Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology, Berlin, Germany).
Research will be carried out in close collaboration with the Universities of Roskilde (Prof. Lone Simonsen), Oslo (Prof. Nils Chr. Stenseth) and Lund (Prof. Tommy Bengtsson), an interdisciplinary consortium of epidemiologists, biologists, mathematicians and social scientists to develop mathematical models of epidemic dynamics of childhood infections in developing historic Nordic societies.
Ideally, we are looking for an individual with a strong quantitative foundation (e.g. with Ph.D. level training in quantitative epidemiology, ecology or equivalent). Candidates should be skilled in at least R and/or more common programming languages. Experience of infectious disease modelling, epidemiology and interaction with biologists and social scientists would be beneficial.
Informal enquiries can be made to Prof Virpi Lummaa (virpi.lummaa@gmail.com) or Dr. Michael Briga (michbriga@gmail.com) and further information about the project and research team can be found on the websites: https://human-life-history.science/ and on https://www.utu.fi/en/university/come-work-with-us/open-vacancies
