Postdoc position on an NIH funded project linking the genetic, antigenic, and epidemiological dynamics of influenza viruses - University of Amsterdam

Applications are invited for a new postdoctoral position in mathematical modelling in the Laboratory of Applied Evolutionary Biology, Department of Medical Microbiology, Academic Medical Center (AMC), University of Amsterdam. This post is part of a US National Institutes of Health RO1 to Prof Colin Russell, Dr Michael Jackson (Kaiser Permanente), and Dr Andrew Conlan (Univ. Cambridge) focused on forecasting the local epidemiological dynamics of seasonal influenza viruses. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work most closely with Prof Russell but also be expected to actively engage with all project members.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be responsible for analyzing large influenza virus datasets to quantify patterns of influenza virus evolution and relate these patterns to epidemiological dynamics observed at the population level. The wealth of data in this project combined with your expertise in quantitative analyses should provide exciting opportunities to make fundamental insights into virus dynamics.

You should have a PhD, preferably in statistics, mathematics, physics, or computational aspects of infectious disease dynamics, evolutionary biology, or epidemiology. In depth experience in statistics and/or developing mathematical models is essential. You should also have good programming skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team.

We offer you ample opportunity for development, deepening and broadening, additional training and a place to grow! Working at AMR means working in an inspiring and professional environment where development is encouraged in every respect.

The minimum and maximum gross monthly salary based on a 36-hour work week is € 3282,- to € 4321,- based on qualifications and experience (scale 10 CAO UMC).
The base salary does not include holiday pay (8%) and a year-end bonus (8.3%).
We offer a contract for 24 months.
In addition to excellent accessibility by public transport, AMC also has a sufficient number of parking spaces for employees.
In addition to the salary, monthly savings are made for the Personal Budget (at least 1.55% of the salary) that you can use for training or personal development.
