Postdoc modeling COVID-19 in Australia
The Brain Modelling Group, led by A/Prof James Roberts at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, is seeking a postdoctoral research fellow. The role is a key part of a Queensland State Government-funded project to model COVID-19 epidemiology.
The successful candidate will model the COVID-19 pandemic in Queensland, Australia. This will entail: (i) mathematical and computational modelling of past, current, and potential future spread of COVID-19 in Queensland; (ii) constraining models against epidemiological and demographic data; (iii) simulating potential outbreak scenarios and strategies for containment; and (iv) liaising with collaborators nationally and internationally as well as Queensland Health epidemiologists. More broadly, the position will build capacity in infectious diseases modelling, with prospects for close collaboration with groups in the Infectious Diseases Program at QIMR Berghofer.
The successful candidate will have:
- A PhD in infectious diseases modelling, applied mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, or a related field;
- A strong track record of high-quality peer-reviewed publications;
- Experience in mathematical modelling of infectious diseases epidemiology;
- Proficiency in programming (chiefly Python).
And ideally will also have experience in:
- Using Covasim;
- Simulating and analysing agent-based models;
- Effective collaboration with government health officials;
- Epidemiology;
- High-performance computing environments.
The position is in Brisbane, Australia. Full-time initially for 1 year with option to extend to end of 2022 subject to satisfactory progress. Salary range is $82,506 to $88,522 p.a. plus super and salary packaging.
