Postdoc in RSV modelling

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow in Mathematical Modelling to join the Department Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology at LSHTM on an interdisciplinary and collaborative project with the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the Centre of Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Disease at LSHTM and others. The project aims to assess optimal vaccination strategies against RSV. The post-holder will have unique access to surveillance and health insurance claim data from Germany and will be responsible for understanding and analysing data on the disease burden of RSV and advance our understanding of RSV transmission dynamics.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in statistics, mathematical modelling, epidemiology or another relevant discipline with a strong quantitative component. Candidates should also demonstrate experience in mathematical modelling preferably on infectious diseases, and have a promising publication record. The post is full-time and fixed-term until 28 February 2022. The post is funded by the Federal Joint Committee, Germany (Gemeinsamer Bundesausschuss) and available immediately. The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale at Grade 6 - £39,304-£43,760 per annum (inclusive). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.

The contractual office location for the role is the LSHTM Keppel Street campus in London. We are open to considering requests for the successful candidate to be based in Berlin for personal reasons should they wish. This will be subject to negotiation at the offer stage based on the expertise and needs of the candidate, and would require formal approval to be based overseas for personal reasons in line with LSHTM procedures for handling such requests. Applicants should be aware that the salary for the role will remain the same irrespective of contractual location, however other benefits (including pension and eligible allowances etc) may differ for staff based overseas.
