Postdoc in Geographic Transmission of Antimicrobial Resistance
The Health Policy and Geography Group at the Institute for Environmental Decisions is offering a Postdoc position.
Project background
Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) -the ability of microbes to evolve and resist treatment- is rising globally. In September 2016, the United Nations General Assembly declared AMR “the most urgent global risk”, and mandated its member states to establish national action plans against AMR, including improvements to epidemiological surveillance systems. This position is part of a project funded by the European Commission to improve surveillance on AMR in animals and humans.
Job description
We are looking for an enthusiastically and quantitatively minded candidate to work on the transmission of antimicrobial resistance in animals and humans in Europe. This project focuses on the risk of circulation of AMR inside the EU, and its importation from third countries. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in the field of disease dynamics. This is a fixed term position for 18 months. The position is based at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. The successful candidate will join the health geography and policy group led by Thom Van Boeckel.
Your profile
We welcome applicants with:
A background in population biology, computational biology, applied mathematics, epidemiology, quantitative geography, ecology.

Experience with the programming language R, packages {sf, raster, adaptivetau, deSolve}.
Basic knowledge in microbiology and genetic epidemiology of AMR, although not required, is an asset.
We look forward to receiving your online application with the following documents: CV; One-page cover letter.
