Postdoc: English & Mandarin speaker to work on COVID-19 and vaccine-preventable disease modelling/economics in China. BMGF funded till 31 Oct 2021.

Applications are invited for a mathematical modeller, heath economist, epidemiologist or statistician to conduct scientific research, policy analyses and provision of technical advice to inform policy making around infectious diseases in China. There are two major streams of work:

(i) Conducting modelling analyses on the spread and interventions against Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) to inform responses to the current outbreak.

(ii) Generating evidence from burden of disease, vaccine impact, mathematical modelling and economic evaluation studies on vaccine-preventable diseases to inform policy making around introduction of new vaccine introduction.

Both sets of analyses will be crucial to key policy decisions in China in the coming years, and have the potential to change the lives of millions of people. The work will be conducted in collaboration with key public health and academic partners in China, and is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The postholder will be supervised by Prof. Mark Jit and will be part of the Modelling and Economic Evaluation of Vaccines (MEEV) group at LSHTM.

The successful applicant will have a PhD (or Masters degree and good research experience) in statistics, mathematical modelling, health economics epidemiology or another relevant discipline with a strong quantitative component. Applicants will need to have a good command of both English and Mandarin Chinese in order to be able to facilitate effective communication between the two teams, and to be able to travel frequently to China.
