Postdoc combining modelling and data analysis to assess how COVID-19 has affected antimicrobial resistance levels within healthcare settings

A 2-year post-doctoral position in mathematical modelling of infectious diseases is available to work with Prs. Laura Temime and Lulla Opatowski, at Institut Pasteur and Conservatoire national des arts et métiers in Paris.

The post-holder will combine mathematical modelling and simulation with the analysis of French nationwide surveillance databases of epidemiological data to study how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected antimicrobial resistance (AMR) levels within healthcare settings.

The project will extend on previous modelling and epidemiological research led by our group over the last decade, to (1) analyze available longitudinal French surveillance data from 2020 and 2021 on nosocomial COVID-19, AMR and antibiotic use within hospitals; (2) develop a mathematical model of the coupled transmission of SARS-CoV-2 and a bacterial pathogen within a hospital that accounts for patient-staff interactions, antibiotic exposure and possible coinfection; and (3) use model simulations informed by the analyzed data to explore the impact of pandemic-induced changes in infection control, antibiotic exposure and care organization on nosocomial AMR.
The objective is to better understand the complex effects of the pandemic on AMR within healthcare settings, and to provide support to decision-making in the fight against AMR in the context of both pandemic and endemic COVID-19.

Applicants should have a PhD in infectious disease epidemiology, mathematical modelling or computational biology. They should have a strong background in computer programming, modelling and statistics, and excellent communication skills. Experience in infectious disease epidemiology or healthcare-related research would be an advantage.
The appointments will start as soon as possible.

Interested candidates should send their application (CV including list of publications, motivation letter and names of two referees) to Laura Temime (laura.temime@lecnam.net). Applications will be evaluated continuously until the position is filled.
