The Institute for Infection Prevention and Hospital Epidemiology at the Medical Centre University of Freiburg, Germany, seeks to recruit 1 Post-Doctoral researcher to join our research team and strengthen our COVID-19 response.

Short term forecasting and nowcasting can help hospitals to timely and appropriately scale up their capacity, as hospitals risk being overwhelmed by admissions of COVID-19 patients if they remain unaware of their local epidemic situation.

The role involves the development of methods to predict service demand for COVID-19 patients in University and tertiary care hospitals, with particular focus on hospitals in Baden-Württemberg, as well other methods and analyses needed to inform the hospitals’ COVID-19 response.

The position is for 1 year, starting as soon as possible.

Applicants should have a strong background in computer programming, modelling and statistics, and have a PhD (or equivalent) in infectious disease epidemiology, mathematical modelling or computational biology, or related fields. Depending on the relevance and experience of the applicant, MSc graduates who wish to further their career in quantitative communicable diseases epidemiology may also be considered.

Your skills and qualifications:
- a PhD (or Master’s degree) in biology, mathematics, physics, economics, social sciences, or equivalent
- proven interest in quantitative methods, mathematical modelling, and/or infectious disease epidemiology
- excellent written and oral communication skills
