Post Doctoral Fellow in Infectious Disease Modeling

A postdoctoral fellow position in Infectious Disease Modeling is available in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics within the School of Public Health at Indiana University – Bloomington.

Working under the direct supervision and mentorship of Dr. Marco Ajelli, the focus of the position is to develop mathematical models to study the epidemiology of infectious diseases. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to develop mathematical models of transmission processes. The work will primarily focus on COVID-19, but the epidemiology of other human infections may be investigated as well. The hired postdoctoral fellow is expected both to lead projects and to work collaboratively with the other members of the lab. The work will provide support to national and international public health decision makers.

Candidates must have received a doctoral degree in a quantitative field degree from an accredited educational institution by the start of the appointment. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of C (or C++) and R (or Python). A strong background in Mathematics or Physics is particularly welcome as well as basic knowledge of infectious disease epidemiology.

The postdoctoral fellow will be hired for a one-year position with opportunity for renewal on a yearly basis assuming satisfactory performance. The position includes benefits and compensation is congruent with NIH stipend levels. The appointment start date is negotiable on a case-by-case basis and could begin as early as November 1, 2021.
