Multi-scale modeling of within-host infection and between-host transmission of respiratory viruses

One post-doctoral position in mathematical modelling of infectious diseases is available to work in Paris between Institut Pasteur and Inserm (Hôpital Bichat) within the European project ORCHESTRA.
The post-holder will work on SARS-CoV-2 transmission risk, through a modeling and data integration approach, combining both the modelling of individual within-host dynamic of infection and the between-host transmission dynamics.
More specifically, the aim is to:

• Develop a model for the simulation of within-host dynamics, formalizing virus multiplication, host immune response and possible use of antivirals.
• Develop a multi-scale model taking into account within- and inter-host dynamics, describing in particular the interactions between hosts and their impact on transmission.

Recommended background: PhD in infectious disease epidemiology, mathematical modelling, biostatistics, biomathematics, computational biology, quantitative ecology or relevant quantitative subject. Required knowledge: ODE/PDE, agent-based or stochastic process modeling, parameter inference and/or data assimilation, programming (Python or C/C++, R). Experience appreciated: a first experience in modeling of biological phenomena and data analysis would be an asset. Desired skills: an appetite for life modeling and interdisciplinary collaboration is essential; rigor, adaptability, teamwork.
