Post-doc in statistical and mathematical modelling of antibiotic resistance in hospitals, from hospital cohorts in a European collaboration context

Modeling antibiotic-resistance diffusion in hospitals between patients and aquatic reservoirs

A post-doctoral position in statistical and mathematical modelling is available to work in the Epidemiology and Modelling and Antibiotic Evasion unit at Institut Pasteur / Inserm / UVSQ / Paris Saclay in Paris.

The project aims to build an analytic framework and analyze densely collected data of bacterial pathogens (Enterobacterales) across reservoirs (water sources and patients) in hospitals to assess persistence, selection and diffusion of resistance genes and bacteria within and between reservoirs. The framework will combine data analysis, the development of a mathematical model of antibiotic resistant bacteria transmission and a statistical framework and some simulation studies.

The post-doctoral project is part of the RESERVOIR project (Development and validation of hospital wastewater and aquatic environment sampling for sentinel surveillance of antimicrobial resistance), a European project funded by the JPIAMR in the context of a collaboration between researchers from Université de Genève, Monash University, Rambam Healthcare Campus, University of Liège/Sciensano, Besancon University Hospital and Institut Pasteur, Paris.

Recommended background: PhD in modelling, biomathematics, biostatistics, or computational biology. Required knowledge: ODE/PDE or stochastic process modeling, data analysis and/or statistical inference, programming (R, Python or C/C++). Experience appreciated: a first experience in modeling of biological or epidemiological phenomena and data analysis. Desired skills: an appetite for life modeling and interdisciplinary collaboration is essential; rigor, autonomy, good communication skills, adaptability, teamwork.
