Position funded by NSF’s Predictive Intelligence for Pandemic Prevention initiative to develop multi-scale models of pandemic influenza viruses

Position Description:
The Rohani lab has a position available for a postdoctoral research associate, based at the Odum School of Ecology, the University of Georgia. The position is funded by the National Science Foundation’s Predictive Intelligence for Pandemic Prevention (PIPP) initiative and will develop within-host and multi-scale models of potentially highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses. This will involve (i) the development of novel computational models of virus progression within a host, (ii) the fitting of these models to infection experiment data, and (iii) incorporation of these models within a transmission framework to assess pandemic potential.

Basic Qualifications:
We are seeking candidates with excellent quantitative skills, including appropriate programming skills, preferably with some background in dynamical systems, computational statistics, complex systems or epidemiology. The position is funded for two years in the first instance. The salary will be in the range $50K-70K, depending on experience. Remote working may be accommodated.

Application Process:
Interested candidates should send a letter of inquiry and CV together with contact information for 3 references to Pej Rohani (rohani@uga.edu).

Review of applications will begin on February 8th and evaluation of applications will continue until the position is filled.
